Most babies measured 5ft would be considered big - but newborn giraffe Margaret at Chester Zoo, UK is seen as unusually small for her species. More photos of the animal being fed by her keepers inside! How sweet!

February 2nd, 2008 - 2:48 pm
giraffes are pointless
February 2nd, 2008 - 3:21 pm
giraffs are stupid
and to post #1 - 90% of that guy’s job probably consists of cleaning up giraffe terds
February 2nd, 2008 - 3:53 pm
2 Cool & sweet
February 2nd, 2008 - 4:06 pm
how is it annoying? how can an animal look annoying?
February 2nd, 2008 - 4:07 pm
What a darling baby. And so fond of her caretaker. That’s heartwarming.
Also: Giraffe poos are not that big a deal. Minimal expenditure for the honor of being trusted by such a special creature. Those of us who know what it’s like to truly bond with a fur creature totally “get” these photos. I feel bad for those who never have.
February 2nd, 2008 - 4:43 pm
ask rosie.
February 2nd, 2008 - 5:05 pm
Very cute. Interesting how the background stone wall resembles the giraffe’s fur pattern.
February 2nd, 2008 - 6:13 pm

February 2nd, 2008 - 8:05 pm
Wow. Mark couldn’t even spell turd correctly.

February 2nd, 2008 - 10:11 pm
“Those of us who know what it’s like to truly bond with a fur creature totally “get” these photos.”
Uhhhh… fur creature? Truly bond? Yeaaaah… so… you’re a furry?
February 2nd, 2008 - 10:40 pm

February 3rd, 2008 - 12:53 am
I’m sorry that you that don’t care about animals are so selfish and stupid. we are suppose to be good steward of the Earth. I guess you people are very Lonely. I will pray for you. Hopeful that will help.
February 3rd, 2008 - 4:23 am
This giraffe baby is adorable. Sadly, giraffes are among the animals that will soon become endangered, if they are not already.
Contrary to the opinion of some people on this board, they are not stupid. But a big shout out to Mark (#7), for not being able to spell the word “giraffe.” You’re a genius.
February 3rd, 2008 - 11:37 am

February 3rd, 2008 - 10:37 pm

February 4th, 2008 - 8:48 pm
I want one!
February 5th, 2008 - 4:21 am
Too, too, too, too, TOOOOOOOO cute for words!!!!
My only heartbreak for Margaret is that she is going to be living out her life in a zoo (captivity), and has absolutely no say in the matter.
But the photos of this baby giraffe are precious, and I wish her a long, safe, healthy, and HAPPY life.

Response:
Ummmmm……. Margaret is not an IT. She is a FEMALE. Animals are not “ITs.” Why did you write: “It’s perfect”? Unless you mean that “Jeffrey” is perfect as a name, but then…….. HER name is MARGARET, and how boringly unoriginal (and typical) to want to name her after an American toy store chain, especially when Margaret was born and lives in Great Britain.
February 5th, 2008 - 4:24 pm

February 7th, 2008 - 3:15 pm
So sad how some people are so miserable that they can’t even see the beauty in the small things. These pictures, and that baby, are precious. I too know what it’s like to bond with a furry creature. Those who don’t understand should be eliminated.
Look at her eyes, they’re so trusting and full of love. She is truely innocent. For those who say Giraffes are pointless…..YOU are pointless!! At least this wonderful creature has a place in the Kingdom.
February 7th, 2008 - 3:31 pm
Raylee … I so agree with you these people above saying negative things about a beautiful animal have no heart they are sleepers in this wondrous world we live in..PEOPLE WHO TAKE FOR GRANTED OR SHOW DISDAIN FOR NATURE AND LIFE ARE DEAD INSIDE ..
a true and absolute waste of life..
these people are the reason we have pollution in our drinking water and air these people are the kind that see life other than there own as noting no respect no love for the oneness that is all things.. these are godless people.THE TYPE OF PEOPLE THAT THINK ANIMALS HAVE NO SOUL…..I do not speak in a religious manner but one of the ether the chi the energy of all this is life of all that is you and me ..
they have a long way to go before they will ascend to a greater level of being..
I PITY THEM..
NAMASTE
OUTVOICED
February 8th, 2008 - 12:55 am
A beautiful animal. THANK YOU. surely it is not as stupid as some of the comments above.
February 8th, 2008 - 1:05 am
I love the giraffe and Alex’s comment was hilarious. Get over yourselves.
February 8th, 2008 - 8:30 am
“I don’t know why, but that’s the most annoying animal I’ve ever seen.”
hahahahahahhahaahahahhahaha
February 8th, 2008 - 2:45 pm
It’s pretty sad when you lack a life so much that you have to look at pictures you don’t like, give an email address, bogus or otherwise, and then take the time to type out a comment. Alex’s comment was pretty funny, I admit, but to mark (#7), giraffe’s may be stupid, but they don’t spend their time look at us online and posting about how dumb we are do they?
N’ by the way, I think those pictures are cute.
February 9th, 2008 - 2:07 pm
This is a baby that would not have survived in the wild so the fact that she must live in captivity means alot of humans care to make the effort. For the gift of life, she is not to be pitied even if she will likely always be captive. In captivity she can live as a steward for humans to learn about and admire her species….hopefully for many years.
Margaret’s species is more rare all the time….mostly directly & indirectly due to humans. It is only right that she be cared for by our species. Margaret IS ’special’….more than can be said for most of you. That in itself is sad.
February 9th, 2008 - 8:02 pm
I bet if he was expecting a little kiss and got a head butt instead he wouldn’t get his face so close to that little baby. Still very beautiful pics…

February 15th, 2008 - 12:00 am
What a shame that the mother is not feeding it as nature intended. Although being short maybe the baby can’t reach the teat?
Beautiful looking and looks almost tame - I would love to have one!!!

My goodness, She is so extremely wonderfully beautiful. Respect. I would have liked to have known her story. Why she’s fed by humans, something happened to her mama?
Giraffes are graceful, and look so wise,as they slowly walk around seeing everything from far above. The lion is scared to attack a baby giraffe,as the mother can kick a lion to death.
So if the lion is the king of the jungle, what is the giraffe to be called?
Ruler of the Savannah? =)
These creatures are friendly and peaceful. Very special.
March 5th, 2008 - 12:51 am

March 8th, 2008 - 7:29 pm
echoing “outvoiced” thoughts, and while we may be “out voiced” by the selfish, shallow, disrespectful, evil and so negative parties in this world, we are not silenced, and with enough truly caring and good hearted respectful others in the world, our voices can and do make a difference. As is stated in the poem Desiderata, “ignore the dull and the ignorant, for they too have an opinion”, but that is not to say that opinion has any real meaning to anyone. I would also love to be the person fortunate enough to have the job of sheer joy that makes ones heart smile, that the caretaker of that giraffe baby has, untainted, pure, innocent, magnificent beauty, as “Creator” by any name intended it to be, to share my time and my love with such magnificent and beautiful creatures.
March 15th, 2008 - 2:12 am
Lindas fotos, maravilhosas… O olhar do homem e da girafa sao generosos. Amei.
March 18th, 2008 - 3:04 am

May 3rd, 2008 - 9:26 pm
im kind of wondering why people who hate these pictures/giraffes are even responding. surely if they hate them that much they wouldnt be bothered to take the time. it makes no sense to me,and it certainly is weird to think they get a rush from saying how ’stupid’ a baby animal is. but oh well..giraffes are actually a favourite animal of mine, and i think Margaret is such a lovely little thing. giraffes seem soo very gentle, even the look out of their eyes says that. i wish her good health and a long happy life with her mum and the rest of her family
May 7th, 2008 - 1:15 am
i LOVE this animal it is my fave!!!
