Do you have any nostalgia about the days when computers were big and slow? Now the size, appearance and speed of first computers seem to be lame but it was not always the case!

Ahh the firm deep clunk of the TRS-80 keyboard.
I feel all warm and fuzzy.
Life was good before some twit invented keyboards that rattled.
We have come a very long way since then, Wonder what people in 25 years would say about the rigs that are sitting on desks now?

The 11th picture is hilarious. She looks as if she’s flirting with the guy holding that huge old computer. “Yeah, I got this computer here, it can print out stuff you know.” While it seems she’s holding some jumbo cassette player.

Amazing pictures, they look like they were taking in the 60s and 70s respectively.
I’m old enough to remember a lot of this hardware. And my kids know to cover their ears when I begin telling tales of playing blackjack with the school’s mainframe in 1976.
Steven… that cassette player, though it might have been for music, might have been for data also, as in those days, instead of diskette or (good Lord!), usb flash drives… you could use a certain tipe of tape recorder to store your data.

Hey quit making fun of my childhood you whipper snappers! Seriously, I almost got a TRS-80 way back when. I’m glad I waited because the Commodore VIC-20 proved to be much more fun! Oh how we cherished those 5,000 or so bytes of RAM!

Any system hooked up to a TV would not be shades of green. You’re thinking of the old computer monitors that were either green or amber monochrome displays.
Hahaha! The computing world is now constantly reminded of those days of SLOW computers by the introduction of Windows Vista….

That’s true. They were called ‘datasettes.’ But I waited and bought the Commodore 1541 when it first came out… 170 kb of true random access storage on a 5.25 disk, w00t! Do you know how many manually-typed-in programs that will hold? Dude, you’ll never have to buy storage again! lol
Got the 300 baud modem cassette too, so I could rule the BBSes. Woohoo!
Is it just me or some of them look photoshopped or modified in some way? The 14th picture has some weird patterns on the blackboard on the right and the next one has the same thing on the right side of the carpet. The table leg looks weird also.
The woman in the first pic is hot.
@Jon: Yeah, looks photoshopped, most probably because these pic’s were used as ads and somebody took their time to remove the logos and brands of them.
Ah.. I remember my good old Pegasus (or ‘NES’ as it was called in the U.S.) hooked up to my tv, playing Mario Bros, Pinball, Contra or Tank City on and on.. exchanging catridges with friends.. those were the days..

Wow, brings me back to the old days. My first computer was a TRS-80 model 1, 4K. I was 15 years old, I thought I was supper cool, typing in my BASIC programs from Byte magazine. I still own a TRS-80 model 1 level 1, 4K and a CoCo 2. They were really the fun days, filled with awe, wonder and expectations of the future. In the computer world, the future did not disappoint. BTW anyone have a original black TRS-80 cassette player for sale?. Email me at Shadowram@verizon.net
Yeah, laugh. When in 15 years there are pictures of you with your 12′ PowerBook circulating, you will do your best to keep these offline.
15 years for a PowerBook to be classic, I think not. Have you not learned anything from the past. No, it will be much sooner then that. For instance, VHS reigned for what 30 years, The DVD, what 10 years old and is on it’s way out for the HD DVD/Blue ray, How long will HD/BR last?..5 years.. Things are a changing my friend, best get with it.

I still have many working TRS-80 Model 1,3 & 4’s(including a few very rare 4p models) as well as quite a few gray and white Color Computers.(I use the COCOs for home security system use.)
Just because of their age doesn’t mean that these old machines have outlived their usefulness. In many way.they are still more rugged and much more reliable than modern computers.
I even have a Model 100 portable(with the bar code reader) that I still use to keep the stores here in Eastern Kentucky honest.Scares the HELL out of most store managers.(GOOD!) You would not believe how many prices are different between what the sticker on the shelf shows and what the bar code says..It keeps the gouging bastards on their toes.
WOW, it’s amazing how much progress we have made with computers since the 1980’s. We have come a long way.

I think its brilliant what technology has accomplished in such a short period of time, the world is now ruled by computers. Penguins rule!
